The track record is not great for those who promise to follow Jesus.

“Teacher I will follow you wherever you go,” said an enthusiastic scribe.

“Jesus replied, ”Foxes have holes, and birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay his head.“

We never hear of this scribe afterwards.

We all remember Peter’s vow, ”Lord, why cannot I follow you now? I will lay down my life for you.“

Jesus answered, ”Will you lay down your life for me? Truly, truly, I say to you, the cock will not crow till you have denied me three times.“

A hymn that promises following Jesus really more demonstrates our sinful hearts rather than our dedication.

I can hear my savior calling
....
where he leads me I will follow
....
I’ll go with Him, with Him, all the way.

Although the tempo is marked “relaxed” you really ought to go about as fast as you can while still sounding relaxed. The little left hand over right ornaments in the fifth system sound good on piano, but awful on organ and may be eliminated. The triplets in the second system are not strict; you may play them as sixteenths just after the beat if you like. Experiment. This is one of those pieces that never quite satisfies me, although I’ve gotten compliments when I’ve played it.
